Data is Human.
Ever so often we forget that here are humans behind the numbers you are being shown.
As a part of our Mapping class we were introduced to the concept of Data Humanism which states-
“impersonality of a merely technical approach to data and to begin designing ways to connect numbers to what they really stand for: knowledge, behaviors, people.”
demunitising human experiences to mere numbers seems dehumanising to me.
So, I decided to capture emotions, create data visualisations as a pratice of reflecting back on emotions felt during the activity. I believe, the essense of stories lie in the context.
I moved to NYC and my apartment didn’t have gas. For a whole month. Due to this, I could virtually cook nothing. Eating out every single day was not only expensive but it took a toll on my dietary habits.
This data visualisation is the week that I could, for first time, cook for myself in a really long time. Most, if not all of the meals were after watching countless YouTube videos. I also sought to better understand my relationship with food through this process.
